With support from the European Union-funded Improving Pacific Islands Customs and Trade (IMPACT) project, the UN Trade and Development continues to strengthen trade facilitation, enhance digital capacity, and empower Customs leadership across the Blue Pacific.

Here’s a snap:

  • Legal milestones: All 15 PACP countries have now completed comprehensive legal reviews to align with WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) measures-unlocking smoother, faster cross-border processes.
  • Digitizing customs process: ASYCUDAWorld is now live in all 3 Micronesian countries – paving the way for automated, efficient customs systems regionwide. Countries are now onboarding more ASYCUDAWorld tools and features for further efficiencies.
  • Customs certification: Over 90 Customs officers (71% women) graduated with Certificate III & IV in Customs Management. Regional expertise is growing stronger.
  • Single Window Advancements: Blueprints validated for Tonga and Palau and Samoa will follow soon. These digital gateways will simplify trade for businesses and regulators alike.
  • Trade Data Access: NTM datasets updated for Timor-Leste, Fiji, PNG, and more with integration into national trade portals for greater transparency.
  • Time Release Studies: Conducted in Palau and Cook Islands, helping us understand and improve the speed of goods clearance.
  • New Learning Tools: An NTM e-course is live, supporting policymakers and private sector players in understanding trade regulations better.

Looking ahead, IMPACT continues to support the Pacific nations toward navigating a sustainable customs and trade environment.
