Niue marked a significant milestone with the launch of ASYHUB Post, a ASYCUDA-CDS interface project aiming to boost digital trade systems and e-commerce.
The initiative, backed by the Government of Australia, UN Trade and Development’s ASYUCDA Programme for the Pacific and United Postal Union, is in line with the Niue Digital Strategy 2024–2030, supporting the long-term development and economic resilience efforts.
Speaking at the launch, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Crossley Tatui, highlighted the project’s importance for Niue’s long-term development and economic resilience.
“This project represents our continued journey toward smarter borders, stronger economic systems, and greater opportunity for our people,” Mr. Tatui said.
“We thank the Government of Australia, UN Trade and Development, and all our partners for supporting Niue as we modernise and prepare for the future.”
The ASYHUB Post-CDS interface enables seamless electronic data exchange between Niue Customs and the Niue Post Office. This integration will accelerate e-commerce, postal and customs clearance, reduce costs for consumers and businesses, and enhance border security and revenue collection.
The initiative further strengthens regional cooperation, aligning Niue’s border processes with international best practices and supporting effective collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Aligned with Pillar 3 of Niue’s National Strategic Plan, the project advances four core objectives:
- Implementing the ASYHUB Post-CDS system;
- Recognising Australia’s partnership and Niue’s leadership in digital innovation;
- Raising awareness of ASYHUB’s benefits across government and private-sector stakeholders; and
- Deepening collaboration between DFAT, UNCTAD, UPU, Niue Customs, and the Niue Post Office.
The UN Trade and Development is proud to support Niue as it builds a more efficient, secure, and future-ready border ecosystem, setting the foundations for a modern digital economy and delivering opportunities for all.
