Consultations have concluded in Kiribati for the development of the country’s Trade Single Window (TSW) Blueprint.
The Blueprint aims to streamline trade processes by integrating government and private sector systems into a single, digital platform.
Stakeholders from both the public and private sectors across Kiribati participated in the consultations, which reviewed the current trade environment and explored ways to enhance efficiency and transparency in the future.
The inclusive process has been welcomed by the trading community.
Mr. Mote Kabiriera, representing the Kiribati Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said, “It’s good that we are being consulted to ensure our real challenges are addressed in developing the Blueprint.”
Mr. Kaboriera said he was looking forward to the advancements in a future Single Window trade ecosystem while noting the current impact with the automated customs processes through ASYCUDA.
The TSW Blueprint will serve as a guide to the development of the future Single Window platform for Kiribati to working toward achieving the nation’s longstanding development plan through digital transformation.
The initiative aligns with Kiribati’s 20-year long-term development plan, which underscores the importance of building a digital economy and enabling digital trade.
Ms. Angoango Fakaua of the Trade Promotion Division (MTCIC) highlighted the significance of this milestone, “It has been a long journey for Kiribati, and our 20-year policy has guided our government in recognizing the importance of a digital economy.
“Our trade policy also supports digital trade and the Single Window,” Ms. Fakaua said.
Following the consultation, the UN Trade and Development will begin the development of the Blueprint which once complete, will be handed over to the Government of Kiribati for finalization and next steps.
With support from the European Union-funded Improving Pacific Islands Customs and Trade (IMPACT) Project implemented by the UN Trade and Development the Government of Kiribati and the trading community are now preparing transform trade through Single Window.
