The UN Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD) ASYCUDA Pacific Programme warmly congratulates Ms. Ashley Adelbai, for winning the prestigious award of the Republic of Palau Ministry of Finance Employee of the Year 2024.

Ms. Ashley Adelbai, is a Customs Officer II and a member of the ASYCUDA National Project Team of the Republic of Palau’s Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (BCBP).

This prestigious recognition honours Ms. Adelbai’s exceptional dedication and hard work, particularly her role in transitioning Palau’s customs operations from a paper-based system to an automated process with the UN Trade and Development’s ASYCUDA technology.

With over a decade of service in Palau Customs, her contributions have been instrumental in helping the trading community navigate the shift to the ASYCUDA automated system, making customs procedures more efficient and accessible.

Ms. Adelbai’s commitment to the project had a significant impact on the efficiency of the Bureau of Customs, particularly in working with the trade community.

Ms Adelbai was announced 2024 Employee of the Year by the Republic of Palau’s Ministry of Finance in recognition of her achievements and ongoing dedication to enhancing Palau’s customs operation.

The Employee Appreciation Day, hosted annually by the Palau Government, allows each ministry to recognize outstanding employees for their contributions.

Ms. Adelbai expressed her gratitude for the honour, acknowledging the role that her work on ASYCUDA played in earning the award.

“I am truly grateful for the recognition and for my management who nominated me. It’s not easy to receive this award, and I want to thank my colleagues, Mr. Khan (the ASYCUDA Expert in Palau), and everyone who has empowered me throughout this journey,” Ms. Adelbai shared.

Her efforts have helped enable the use of the newly automated customs processes for the Palau trading community and streamline customs processes, creating a more efficient and structured trade sector for the country.
