The Vanuatu Customs and Inland Revenue Department has implemented the use of Administration Selectivity Module in ASYCUDA World which now automates the clearance process for Biosecurity Vanuatu.
The automation of the Biosecurity clearance process means that the Trader or their agent no longer need to visit the Biosecurity office to get ta manual release or inspection stamp on their bull of lading since this process is now done electronically through the ASYCUDA World system.
It is worthwhile mentioning that automating the Biosecurity clearance process at the border using the same system as Customs fulfils international standards and recommendations of countries having a Single Window environment where shipping and airline agents, Customs Brokers and Traders are required to submit cargo and clearance documents to border agencies at a single place, and even electronically, as it is now the case in Vanuatu.
Furthermore, the introduction of this modernization initiative meant that border control is now more effective than ever before, whilst at the same time, movement of goods across the borders are now well facilitated, controlled and coordinated (joint inspections etc.) by both Customs and Biosecurity. It also means that transparency, accountability and integrity are achieved with regards to clearance of cargo by these two border agencies.
